Late last year an alert Hunt for Tom Clancy reader on the twitter side of the house recommended I read a book: Declare, by Tim Powers.

Boy am I glad I did, and thank you, alert reader.

Declare is thick; it’ll take a little time, but not as much as you’d expect from a novel that runs 584 pages. The prose is smooth and lively and the plot—bifurcated into two time periods, one during World War II and one in 1963—is compelling.
