A little before 2PM on Memorial Day 2024.
I see a man climb a steel rail in the center of the bridge four hundred and eighty feet above the river below. I’ve talked with this man, but you haven't tried to talk him out of it, so it feels like there's some stakes. There, on the rail over the Snake River Canyon stands a man who calls himself Bot.
Bot is oblivious to the cars whipping past him on the Perrine Memorial Bridge. A semi passes, rattling the rail.
He raises his hand to signal someone on the other side of the bridge, she's next to me. She blows him a kiss.
He jumps.
